India is a rapidly growing nation experiencing economic growth from 7% to 9% over the past three years. While health and educa- tion have vastly improved, the nation still lags behind in several areas. According to United Nations Development Program 2007- 08 Human Development Report,
• Only 13% of schools offer computer access to their students,
• 93% of India’s working population work in an infor- mal economy with little or no livelihood
security,
• India accounts for 20% of the world’s maternal deaths, with a woman dying every five
minutes.
Recognizing that Education, Livelihood, and Public health are some of the key infrastructure areas to improve in India, AIF endeavors to act as a catalyst for social and economic development in India.
