Serve in India
ENCorps India
How will it work?
ENCorps will go beyond merely matching needs with skills; it will be a facilitated program that will operate like a professional services firm, with well-defined engagement management practices with a focus on delivering measurable value.
ENCorps plans to partner with leading foundations and other institutions to gain access to NGOs and other institutions and identify value projects. Currently, ENCorps is partnering with the American India Foundation (AIF), the Ashoka Foundation, and the Institute for Leadership and Institutional Development (ILID) to do some pilot engagements. ENCorps plans to partner with other such entities in the future. ENCorps will work with the NGOs and other organizations to identify high-value projects.
ENCorps will reach out to US-based community groups, professional/alumni associations, universities and other NRI groups to find interested volunteers, willing to participate in the program. ENCorps will facilitate bringing together interested NRI's and NGO's with specific needs:
- Matching - It will match the volunteer with the specific needs of an NGO to ensure a correct fit of skills, time-frames and commitment.
- Preparation - The two will interact to ensure mutual correct and clear understanding of the specific projects/efforts the NRI will be involved in. NRI's will be oriented appropriately to understand potential challenges and concerns and how to deal with these. ENCorps will try to take a team approach to provide multiple skills to the NGOs.
- Project Execution – The volunteer(s) and the NGO will follow standard business project management methods to plan, execute and measure the effort. The results will be documented in a standard manner and made available in the form of an online database.
The volunteers are expected to bear the expense of their travel to India and the living expenses. ENCorps will reimburse them for any out-of-pocket expenses related to their working on a specific project. In some case, an NGO may be able to provide travel and living expenses to the volunteers.
