Serve in India
ENCorps India
Helping to make a greater difference
ENCorps Vision:
ENCorps is a program to mobilize business/other professionals in the US to participate in India’s Social Development efforts by giving their time and energy to work on projects in areas of education, health-care and livelihood. The program will facilitate this by arranging short-term projects with nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), educational and health-care institutions. The projects will focus on capacity building - the objective is to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of these organizations in areas of planning, administration, operations, program/service development, technology, impact measurement, and so on.
Approach:
ENCorps intends to leverage the professional and subject-matter expertise of NRIs who are retired/semi-retired who want to spend periods of time back in India. ENCorps will also leverage working professionals who want to take time off to work in India’s social sector. These people have:
- Built successful professional careers in the US
- Proven expertise in management, technology, education, health-care, finance and other areas
- A desire to ‘give-back’ by volunteering with institutions involved in social and human development.
Rationale/Need Areas:
Most NGOs (and other organizations) tend to focus their limited resources on core work and are less attentive to ‘looking inward’ to enhance their operational capabilities. As these institutions grow, there is need for expertise and resources to build capacity. There is an acknowledged need to:
- Create efficient administrative and other operational processes
- Measure the impact of their programs and find ways to enhance the effectiveness
- Leverage technology to create innovative services, delivery capabilities
- Extend reach (scale up) without loss of effectiveness
- Collaborate more effectively with the government, industry and other organizations.
Discussions with many NGOs have revealed ‘felt needs’ in many areas:
